Happy Easter!
Did you know that even though Easter Sunday is over, it is in fact only the beginning?
Easter is actually a fifty-day liturgical season which begins on Easter Sunday and concludes on Pentecost Sunday (called Eastertide). It is also known as the "Great Fifty Days", so why not keep the joy of this celebration going!
We sing a lot of alleluias throughout this season, but there are many days when we no longer feel the glow of the Easter vibe. How do you keep your singing joy alive so that every day is an alleluia for your voice?
No matter what genre - whether classical, jazz, pop, blues, soul, country, folk, musical theatre, or rock - applying Bel Canto mechanics to your singing can work wonders for your voice and revive confidence in your artistry. Think of Bel Canto as laying a solid foundation for healthy, efficient, effortless, sensible singing that lasts a lifetime! This is what being free to sing is all about.
Is your voice tired, strained, or worn? Perhaps you feel that the emotional connection to your songs is dwindling? This is a signal for more self-care.
We are not a jukebox belting out song after song, but human beings who are created to communicate with feeling to our listeners. Of all the singing techniques I have personally studied and applied, I know that Bel Canto works best. It not only incorporates the physical side of singing but also the spiritual, psychological, and emotional aspects of ourselves. This is essential because we are not machines or robots.
The process of self-discovery can sound daunting but it is actually transformative if we give ourselves permission to release, have compassion, and be patient. This also brings us a greater sense of freedom. Isn’t that what the Easter story is about every day of our lives? We need renewal. We need to emerge from the darkness of our “tombs” into the light.
Keep the songs going friends. Do not allow the ugliness and fears imposed by the world to snuff out the songs within you. Let them be free.
If you want to experience how there is absolutely no need to push, thrust, force, or “make” your voice do anything to sing beautifully, then you need Bel Canto in your life! Does that seem like impossible magic for you? Well, the secret is that this magic already lives within you!
How do I know this? Well on top of twenty years of singing in choirs and as a cantor, I personally experienced Bel Canto training with my teacher and continue to apply what I learnt in my own singing (and speaking). I sing regularly on my YouTube and Rumble channels (you can also check out my other social media channels through the icons in the navigation menu) so you can see and hear me walk the talk and not just talk the talk!
Did you catch the Easter songs I performed recently for example, in addition to other songs on my channels? Listen to the brightness, resonance, clear articulation, long legato lines, and effortlessness of Bel Canto (especially the super high notes!) in my videos below:
- "All In An Easter Garden" - Traditional - Cover, sung by Yvonne
- "The Reproaches" by Tomás Luis de Victoria; Geoffrey Cox - Choir Refrains - Cover, sung by Yvonne
- “Hosanna Filio David” by Tomás Luis da Victoria - Cover, sung by Yvonne
If you're an adult (aged 18+ years) come and learn with me! If you would prefer to talk about your singing goals and your training options then you can register for a completely FREE Discovery Consultation. I promise I don’t bite and you would be most welcome!
Until next time, keep the light of Easter going and remember…
